The English Team to Start Euro 2028 Quest at the Etihad Stadium

The English squad will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, provided that they attain the relatively straightforward passage for a championship taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not staged an England men’s fixture since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to host the national team for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

The English side are scheduled to play their final two group matches at the national stadium, but, should they win Group B, their knockout stage opener would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Competition Kickoff and Rally

The championship was inaugurated at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Key representatives from Uefa and the host FAs were confronted as they entered the venue by around fifty protesters, who urged Israel to be kicked out from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were raised with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Timeline

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a match that will involve the Welsh team if they make it.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for European club finals from next season, will cater to family audiences and help connect with a wider spectrum of viewers.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for the finals through that route.

Venues and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarterfinal matches played at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be staged in Belfast, which was dropped as a host city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a tournament for the supporters and a celebration of everything we cherish about the sport – its emotion and ability to foster unity.”

More than three million passes, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are expected to be made available to supporters.
