The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic Tabletop Role-Playing Game

The intense universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to create a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic landscape. This initiative was revealed, with a crowdfunding campaign planned to launch in April of 2026.

"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the table, offering fans a fresh avenue to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an announcement.

Initial offerings are set to feature a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, miniatures, and various premium versions.

Delving Into The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, sending the nation into chaos. As the crisis worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups emerge, transforming the city into a battlefield. To restore order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the players enter the story.

Work on the RPG has been underway for about three years, and it is reportedly complete. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a broader market, specifically in the United States. Production is slated to begin immediately following the campaign, with shipping projected for later in 2026.

A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System

A preview at the game's rules confirms it uses 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and tactical approach. Players leverage skills or traits to assemble small dice pools, typically from one to five d10s.

  • Rather than adding results together, participants select a single “resolution die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then measured against a target difficulty.
  • Achieving a perfect 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as extra damage or enhanced aid.

Engagements Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness

Battles prioritize placement and situational awareness, reflecting the video games. Factors like cover, elevation, or line of sight directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to favor coordination and clever tactics instead of simple statistics.

A Thematic Health System

The way health is managed adds a compelling narrative layer. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their capabilities by lowering the number of d10s.

  1. At critical condition, an agent is downed, but is not knocked out.
  2. They can still crawl and take limited actions, emulating the last stand seen in many shooter games.
  3. Any player knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.

An Introductory Adventure

A free introductory rulebook is promised soon. It contains a pre-made starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group lead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an assault by the violent Rikers gang, who have taken over that Manhattan district. More specifics and the full range of offerings will be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
