NY Launches Online Platform for Public to Report Immigration Images Following Arrests of 4 US Citizens

The state AG has rolled out a fresh reporting form encouraging citizens to share visual evidence of federal immigration enforcement across the state. This step follows a day after a high-profile enforcement action disrupted Chinatown in Manhattan, prompting large-scale protests.

US Citizens Arrested In Raid

A US congressman announced during a news conference that four American citizens were taken into custody and held for "almost a full day" after the enforcement action. Demonstrations broke out in New York on consecutive evenings.

"Every New Yorker deserves to exist without intimidation," the attorney general wrote in a release.

"Anyone who observed and recorded federal operations recently, I urge you to submit that evidence with us. We are committed to examining these reports and determining any wrongdoings."

Submission Process

The portal includes fields to submit visual evidence of the raid, plus a section to indicate where it occurred. Prior to sending, submitters must mark a checkbox that confirms that "the office could utilize any documents, photographs, or videos in a legal proceeding, such as in a legal proceeding or government document."

Details of the Manhattan Operation

The enforcement action, which observers say featured over fifty government officers, occurred in a famous area of NYC where fake purses, items, goods and additional items are commonly traded en masse – typically to sightseers.

Recordings of Tuesday's raid depict numerous covered and weaponized federal agents securing and holding a person, and forcing aside witnesses. Crowds of locals followed the personnel along the roads. An armored truck was also seen traveling down the city streets.

Leadership Statements

In a news conference featuring the New York immigrant rights coalition, Representative Goldman, a Democrat, announced that four American citizens were detained by ICE for nearly 24 hours and that there were "no conditions where US citizens should be taken for without cause." He clarified the individuals were let go on the following day with no legal action taken.

"There's a clear purpose here. It is not about removing offenders," he stated. "This represents a armed campaign to provoke unrest. It is merely a justification to provoke conflict for this administration to utilize the troops to stop unrest that they themselves caused."

Extensive Outcry

Anger over the ICE raid rapidly grew – all three mayoral candidates denounced the incident, along with the state leader.

"Repeatedly, the Trump administration selects oppressive displays that generate terror, rather than security. It has to end," a political candidate stated.

The city's immigrant rights groups expressed outrage too.

"Immigration agents targeted Chinatown in NYC with military-style vehicles, covered personnel and protective equipment to target street vendors working to survive. This operation had nothing to do with community security and focused completely on frightening communities and neighborhoods," stated the head of a major immigrant coalition.

Agency Rules

Agency rules prohibits the detention of US citizens and the bureau has claimed it will not arrest or detain American nationals. Yet, investigative journalism has found that over 170 US citizens have been detained unlawfully by immigration authorities during the period of the existing leadership.

Ongoing Trend

ICE raids have been becoming more common in the state and nationwide this year.

A mid-October raid in midtown Manhattan was the initial documented operation on an immigrant shelter of the present government. Rallies opposing federal operations are ubiquitous including allegations of violence and abusive practices.

Latest, a document filed by legal entities alleged medical neglect of women with child in ICE facilities.
