Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly regarding the Trump government, fearing it could intensify polarizing arguments and deepen rifts throughout the nation.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says Lawrence
During a discussion, she shared, “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was acting frantically without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on electoral choices.”
She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the country apart.”
Shifting Views
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about supporting Republican and Democratic contenders throughout her life. Brought up by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for John McCain in 2008 before joining the left-leaning politics and explaining she recognized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.
Previous Comments
Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election would be “a disaster” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “since I feel she’s a strong contender and I trust that she will make every effort to safeguard women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
The star was aligned with most of Hollywood in her rejection of the former president as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact stars have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by his election win.
“The second term feels different,” commented she about his leadership. “Because he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
Current Projects
The actor is highlighting her new film, the filmmaker’s movie in which she plays a young mom who struggles with her psychological well-being in the countryside. At a press conference for the project in the film festival, Lawrence commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Wider Issues
She continued by saying that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discussions of American politics at present and how that is going to be accepted to the children now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence attempted to refocus frustration about the conflict to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on those accountable,” she said, in what many took to be a nod to the then-recent pledge endorsed by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with Israeli film institutions.
Personal Connections
Lawrence, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is receiving praise for her work in Die, My Love. While Ramsay has disputed the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, the actress said that she identified with elements of her film narrative after the arrival of her new baby, not long after shooting ended.
“It was fear regarding my baby,” she commented, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a drug called that medicine and I used it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence also mentioned about the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the project while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
